China Condemns Japan PM’s Taiwan Comments Amid Historical Tensions

🇨🇳 China has issued a sharp rebuke to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi over recent remarks about the Taiwan region, calling them a violation of diplomatic principles and a dangerous echo of history. The clash comes as cross-strait tensions remain a global focus in 2025.

Diplomatic Firestorm Ignites

At a Wednesday press conference, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua stated: "Takaichi's comments grossly interfere in China's internal affairs and trample on the one-China principle." The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reportedly filed formal protests with Tokyo.

History Lessons Resurface

Chen emphasized Japan's colonial past, noting: "Eighty years after defeating Japanese aggressors, we will never tolerate new threats to our territorial integrity." The remarks reference Japan's 50-year occupation of Taiwan ending in 1945 – a period marked by documented atrocities.

Warning to Taipei and Tokyo

The spokesperson cautioned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities against "leaning on external forces" to pursue separation, while urging Japan to honor commitments from four key bilateral documents. Analysts suggest this could impact tech and trade flows across the Taiwan Strait.
