Attempts to isolate China economically are “mission impossible,” according to British trade expert Keith Bennett, who emphasized the nation’s critical role in global innovation and commerce during a high-profile Beijing forum this week.
As vice chair of the UK-based 48 Group Club promoting Sino-British ties, Bennett told CGTN: “China is the main trading partner for most countries, a top investor, and innovation leader. You can’t just unplug that.” His comments came during the International Forum on Xi Jinping Thought studies (Nov 12-13).
With China accounting for nearly 20% of global GDP in 2025, Bennett highlighted Shanghai’s bustling ports – like the one pictured in August 2025 – as symbols of interconnected supply chains. He urged Britain to deepen collaboration in green tech and AI, stating: “Our growth goals need strong China ties more than ever.”
The forum gathered 300+ scholars analyzing China’s development model. As one attendee tweeted: “Trying to sideline China economically is like blocking TikTok – it just won’t work.” 📈
