Xi Stresses Taiwan Stance in Trump Call, Vows Peaceful Ties 🌏

Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent phone conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn renewed attention to cross-strait relations, with a mainland spokesperson emphasizing Xi's "guiding significance" on Taiwan policy. 🇨🇳📞

Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated Wednesday that Xi's remarks during the Monday call reinforced China's commitment to opposing separatist activities while promoting peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait. The dialogue comes as 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China after WWII—a historical touchstone Beijing frequently cites.

"We will unite compatriots on both sides to resolutely oppose 'Taiwan independence,'" Peng declared, underscoring Beijing's dual approach of firm deterrence against separatism and advocacy for stability. The spokesperson also highlighted the need for China and the U.S. to jointly uphold post-WWII outcomes, a nod to Washington's longstanding One-China policy.

While Trump's current political role remains unclear in 2025, analysts suggest the call signals Beijing's proactive diplomacy ahead of key anniversaries. Young professionals and students tracking Asia-Pacific geopolitics will find this development crucial as cross-strait dynamics continue shaping tech supply chains and regional security.
