Thousands flooded Caracas streets this week, waving Venezuelan flags and chanting slogans against U.S. military involvement. The Jan. 4 demonstrations came as protesters demanded immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, currently detained by American forces.
"They want to steal our resources while pretending to care about democracy!" shouted Marina Gutiérrez, a local resident, during an emotional interview with CGTN Stringer. Many held signs reading “Hands Off Venezuela” in Spanish and English, blending political urgency with viral-ready visuals perfect for TikTok activism.
Marta Zanches, another protester, told reporters: “This isn’t about left vs. right – it’s about sovereignty. The world can’t ignore human rights violations just because they’re wrapped in star-spangled banners.” The crowd’s energy mirrored Latin America’s growing push against foreign intervention, with several comparing the situation to 20th-century banana republic dynamics.
