Suriname’s President Eyes Stronger Ties with China 🌏✨

Suriname, a South American nation with deep cultural ties to China, is doubling down on its partnership with Beijing as both countries celebrate milestones. 🇨🇳🇸🇷 In an exclusive interview with CMG, Surinamese President Chandrikapersad Santokhi highlighted opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange during his recent state visit to China.

🗣️ “China’s global initiatives are crucial for emerging economies,” Santokhi said, praising President Xi Jinping’s vision. He emphasized Suriname’s role as the first Western Hemisphere country to recognize the Chinese Spring Festival as a national holiday—a nod to its vibrant Chinese diaspora community marking 170 years in the region.

With 2024 marking the fifth anniversary of their “strategic cooperative partnership,” Santokhi sees green energy and tech as key areas for collaboration. “Whether you like it or not, China is leading,” he remarked, underscoring Beijing’s rising influence in global governance.

🌱 The Caribbean nation also aims to leverage China’s Belt and Road Initiative for sustainable development projects. From tropical forests to cultural festivals, this partnership is blossoming—and young entrepreneurs are watching closely.
