Macao Prepares for Chief Executive Election 🗳️✨

Macao is gearing up for its sixth-term chief executive election, set to take place Sunday at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. The election underscores the region’s commitment to its governance principles, with officials emphasizing thorough preparations to ensure a smooth process. 🌏

Current Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng inspected the polling station Saturday, highlighting the significance of the election following amendments to the Chief Executive Election Law in 2023. These changes aim to strengthen the principle of 'patriots administering Macao,' ensuring stability and alignment with national priorities. Ho urged the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) to leave 'no detail overlooked.'

EAC President Song Man Lei confirmed all arrangements are finalized, including 32 voting booths and 8 ballot boxes for the 400-member Election Committee. Votes will be tallied immediately after polls close, with results announced swiftly. 🗣️

The sole candidate, Sam Hou Fai, secured 386 nominations from the committee earlier this month. Under the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive is elected by the committee and formally appointed by the Central People’s Government, serving a five-year term. This election marks another step in Macao’s unique 'one country, two systems' journey since its return to China in 1999. 🇨🇳
