Hold onto your passports, globetrotters! China just dropped a major update for travelers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Starting in 2025, residents of Shenzhen and Zhuhai will enjoy supercharged travel flexibility to neighboring Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.
What’s Changing?
Shenzhen to Hong Kong: From Dec 1, 2024, permanent residents and residence permit holders can apply for multi-entry permits valid for unlimited visits (7 days max per stay).
Zhuhai to Macao: Starting Jan 1, 2025, weekly visits allowed (7-day stay each trip) for Zhuhai residents.
Hengqin Zone to Macao: Unlimited yearly access for residents of this Guangdong-Macao cooperation hotspot.
Why It Matters
This move turbocharges integration in the Greater Bay Area—a US$1.8 trillion economic powerhouse rivaling Canada’s GDP. With 86 million people, the region is a global hub for tech, finance, and trade. Easing travel could spark new business collabs, tourism surges, and even faster cross-border innovation.
Local entrepreneur Li Wei told us: 'This is like removing invisible walls—our teams can now brainstorm in Shenzhen prototypes and pitch in Hong Kong boardrooms in the same week.'
