Flash floods have upended lives in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan province, leaving 40,000 children without homes after torrential rains struck Friday. Global charity Save the Children called the situation a 'childhood crisis' as schools, playgrounds, and communities vanished underwater.
'Children are scared. Many have lost everything,' said Arshad Malik, the charity’s Afghanistan country director. 'They’ve lost their routine – schools, play areas, all that’s familiar.' The disaster highlights growing climate vulnerability in regions already strained by poverty.
Floods also hit nearby provinces, compounding challenges for aid groups racing to provide shelter and supplies. With infrastructure damaged, experts warn recovery could take years. 💔
