China just upped its clean energy game with the grand opening of its first smart factory for offshore oil and gas equipment in Tianjin! Built along the Bohai Sea coast, this futuristic facility is about to revolutionize how energy infrastructure is made.
Spanning 575,000 square meters—roughly the size of 80 soccer fields—the base produces everything from offshore platforms to liquefied natural gas modules. Thanks to its 600+ intelligent machines and a next-gen management platform, tasks like pipe-cutting and material retrieval now require just one click.
‘Before, manufacturing was super manual and slow,’ said COOEC’s Wang Lei. ‘Now, AI handles 90% of the work, and humans tweak the details.’ The factory’s Phase 1, launched in 2022, already shipped 87,000 tonnes of equipment to places like Canada. Phase 2 boosted productivity by 20% and doubled overall capacity!
With China’s offshore oil output hitting 62 million tonnes last year ( 3.4 million tonnes up!), this innovation could help meet global energy demands while slashing carbon footprints.
