Freezing temps sweep across central and eastern China as authorities ramp up emergency protocols

The National Meteorological Center doubled down on alerts Friday – a blue alert for the cold snap and yellow alert for strong winds. Forecasters warn that temps could plunge by over 10°C in some areas through Saturday, affecting everyone from noodle-slurpers in Shandong to yak herders near the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.
