Carmen Giménez Abad’s story is one of grit, heartbreak, and hope. After surviving a domestic violence attack in 2010 that left her paralyzed, the Spanish athlete faced another unimaginable loss: the death of her newborn son. But instead of letting despair win, Carmen found healing in motion.
Starting with short 100-meter races, she pushed her limits through grueling endurance training. Fast-forward to April 2024: Carmen made history as the first Spanish female wheelchair athlete to compete in the iconic Boston Marathon. ‘Racing gave me purpose,’ she says. ‘Every mile is a reminder that we’re stronger than our struggles.’
Now, Carmen eyes a new finish line: the Paralympics. Her message to others? ‘Life might knock you down, but you decide whether to stay there.’ From hospital beds to marathon roads, her journey proves resilience knows no limits.
