China's top diplomat Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to Africa during a six-day tour of four nations, highlighting plans to deepen cooperation and mutual development. The visit, part of a 35-year diplomatic tradition, underscored China's focus on building a “shared future” with African partners.
Wang met leaders in Namibia, Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria, where all nations voiced support for the one-China principle and pledged to advance 10 partnership action plans from the 2023 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). These initiatives aim to accelerate modernization through infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchanges.
During talks, African leaders praised China's approach as addressing the continent's “pressing challenges.” Wang emphasized collaboration within the Global South, stating: “Without Africa's modernization, global modernization can't be achieved.”
The diplomat highlighted civilizational exchanges as a priority, noting Africa's “rich histories” and China's development model under CPC leadership. Both sides agreed to share governance insights to strengthen political and social foundations for future projects.
With Beijing pushing its Global Development and Security Initiatives, Wang confirmed plans to scale up Belt and Road projects while promoting “win-win” economic strategies.
