Hong Kong kicked off a week of vibrant celebrations Saturday to mark the 27th anniversary of its return to China, blending tradition with modern flair. The launch at Victoria Park featured speeches, cultural showcases, and a roadmap for the city’s future under ‘One Country, Two Systems’.
Leaders Highlight Progress & Unity
HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee emphasized Hong Kong’s resilience, stating: “With national support, we’ve turned challenges into opportunities.” He linked the milestone to the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, calling it a “double celebration of shared success.”
Culture Takes Center Stage
From June 29 to July 2, Victoria Park will host interactive exhibits and performances from six mainland regions, including Sichuan’s spicy cuisine and Shaanxi’s terracotta warrior replicas. The events aim to “bridge cultures through noodles, dance, and innovation,” said organizer Tam Kam-kau.
Looking Ahead
Liaison Office director Zheng Yanxiong reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to Hong Kong’s global competitiveness, vowing to strengthen its role as a financial hub while preserving its unique identity.
