Big news from Kreischberg, Austria! Yang Wenlong from the Chinese mainland has soared to victory, clinching his first-ever International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Snowboard Big Air World Cup title in the men's final.
At just 25 years old, Yang delivered an impressive performance with a front double cork 1800 weddle, earning 86.00 points in his first run. The competition heated up as the reigning champion, Taiga Hasegawa of Japan, led the pack, keeping Yang on his toes.
In a nail-biting final attempt, Yang executed a flawless backside 1980 Japan, scoring a whopping 96.50 points and surpassing Hasegawa by 2.25 points. This remarkable feat puts Yang on the World Cup podium for the second time, following his third-place finish in Beijing.
Hasegawa secured the second spot with a total of 180.25 points, while Kira Kimura from last season's big air Crystal Globe win stood strong in third place with 168.75 points.
Women’s Final Shines Bright
On the women's side, Anna Gasser, a double Olympian gold medalist, made history by claiming her 10th World Cup Big Air victory. With a total score of 167.75, Gasser outperformed Japan's Reira Iwabuchi and Germany's 17-year-old Mia Brookes by 10 and 17 points respectively.
“This one is very special. The level of the girls is just so great right now and to still be able to keep up with my younger competitors – it's such a great time for me,” Gasser shared, marking her achievement as the oldest World Cup winner in FIS Snowboard Park & Pipe history.
The event was a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, celebrating both seasoned champions and rising stars in the snowboarding world.
