The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the International Boxing Association's (IBA) appeal against the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to withdraw recognition. This ruling means that the IBA is no longer the sport's international federation.
In June, the IOC stripped the IBA of its recognition due to the organization's failure to implement necessary reforms in governance, finance, and ethics. The CAS confirmed that the IBA did not meet the conditions set by the IOC, such as increasing financial transparency and ensuring the integrity of referees and judges.
\"The IOC Session took its decision based on the recommendation issued by the IOC Executive Board on 7 June 2023 following a long process, initiated shortly after the Olympic Games Rio 2016,\" the CAS statement read.
The sports court also noted that the IBA did not adopt all measures proposed by the IOC's Governance Reform Group, including fostering a culture change within the organization.
With the IBA out of the picture, rival organization World Boxing has announced plans to seek recognition from the Olympic organizers. This move aims to keep boxing in the spotlight for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Stay tuned as the boxing world navigates these significant changes! 🥊✨
