The Yellow River, the second longest river in the Chinese mainland, is set to begin its annual fishing moratorium on April 1, lasting until June 30. 🗓️
During this period, a special law enforcement campaign will be launched across nine provincial-level regions along the river, as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security.
Authorities are stepping up efforts to crack down on illegal fishing activities, enhance law enforcement techniques, and implement compensation measures to address any environmental and ecological damage caused. 🛡️🌿
Different sections of the river will have tailored control measures. While fishing is prohibited year-round in the river source area and upper reaches, phased bans will be enforced in the middle and lower reaches.
Additionally, all fishing activities will undergo strict reviews to prevent the use of harmful fishing tools and methods, aiming to curb illegal operations disguised as recreational fishing.
The primary goal of the fishing ban is to safeguard aquatic resources and biodiversity, as overfishing poses a significant threat to fish populations. The ban covers the main stream, three major lakes, and 13 tributaries connected to the Yellow River. 🌊🐟
