Chinese Mainland Unveils Ambitious Plan to Cut Food Waste by 2027 🌱🍽️

The Chinese mainland has rolled out a new action plan to tackle food loss and waste, setting its sights on creating a sustainable system by the end of 2027. 🌟

Jointly released by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, the plan aims to improve systems and standards surrounding food production, storage, transportation, and processing. The goal? To bring loss rates of grain and food below the international average by 2027 and significantly reduce per capita food waste in the catering industry, government canteens, school canteens, and enterprise canteens. 🥗🚚

Key initiatives include boosting national awareness about saving food, launching anti-waste campaigns in various catering sectors, and enhancing the collection of food loss and waste statistics. 📊🍴

This ambitious move aligns with the United Nations' target to halve global food waste by 2030. According to the United Nations Environment Programme Food Waste Index Report 2024, the world wasted 1.05 billion tonnes of food in 2022, accounting for 19% of available food. Additionally, the Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that another 13% is lost in the supply chain stages. 🌍💡
