China Urges U.S. for Peaceful Coexistence and Stronger Trade Ties

Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence between China and the U.S. at the 2025 Duke-UNC China Leadership Summit. 🌏✨

Speaking via video, Xie highlighted that as two major global powers, both nations have an obligation to foster long-term peace and cooperation. He encouraged the U.S. to adopt a correct perception of China, stating, \"If we see each other as a rival and engage in a race to the bottom, neither of us would be a winner, and the world would suffer. If we choose to be each other's partner and help one another succeed, we can prosper together, with the whole world benefiting from it.\" 🤝

Ambassador Xie stressed the need for the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle and properly handle the Taiwan question in line with the three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués. He called on the U.S. to resolutely oppose Taiwan independence, stop upgrading its substantive relations with Taiwan, and cease efforts to help Taiwan expand its so-called \"international space.\" 🇨🇳🇺🇸

He warned that attempts to \"use Taiwan to contain China\" would only lead to trouble for the U.S. Additionally, Xie pointed out that bilateral trade between China and the U.S. exceeded $680 billion last year, with around 73,000 American companies investing in the Chinese mainland. He cautioned against any moves to decouple or disrupt supply chains, stating that a trade war or tariff war would cause significant harm to both sides. 📈💼

Xie also highlighted China's early efforts in controlling fentanyl-related substances, being the first country to officially schedule them in 2019. He noted the progress in China-U.S. counternarcotics cooperation and warned that using the fentanyl issue as a pretext for tariffs would be counterproductive. 💊🚫

Addressing emerging global challenges, Ambassador Xie urged both nations to uphold peace, development, and cooperation while rejecting hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism. 🌐✌️
