🌍 UN Expert: China’s Urban Model Could Solve Global Housing Crisis

With 2.8 billion people globally living in inadequate housing, the UN’s top urban development leader says it’s time to rethink how we build cities—and China’s transformation offers key lessons. 🏙️

In an exclusive interview with Leaders Talk, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach praised China’s rapid yet people-centered urban renewal projects. "Chinese cities prioritize accessibility, green spaces, and affordability in ways that balance growth with dignity," she told CMG’s Wang Guan.

Rossbach highlighted how China’s approach—from upgrading slums to creating tech-integrated "sponge cities"—could inspire solutions worldwide. 🌏 1 in 3 urban dwellers currently lack safe housing, a crisis worsening climate vulnerabilities and inequality.

Her call to action? "Global solidarity" through knowledge-sharing and policies that treat housing as a human right—not a commodity. With youth-led movements pushing for sustainable cities, Rossbach remains optimistic: "When we design for people first, miracles happen."
