China’s Rice Revolution Boosts Chad’s Food Security 🌾🤝

Golden rice fields in Chad’s Hadjer-Lamis Region are painting a new future for food security, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership with Chinese agricultural experts. 🌍 For nearly two decades, China’s Agricultural Technical Assistance Mission (MATACT) has worked alongside Chadian farmers to transform rice production—and the results are literally harvest-ready.

At Midekin Village’s recent Harvest Festival, farmers cheered as Chinese-developed machinery zipped through fields, cutting rice in minutes instead of days. 🚜 “These machines perform magic!” said 27-year-old farmer Baradine Kadre, who’s seen yields skyrocket since MATACT introduced high-tech harvesters and climate-resilient rice varieties.

Chad’s food challenges are no small grain: harsh climates, outdated techniques, and reliance on imports left millions vulnerable. But with Chinese experts sharing irrigation tech, optimized seeds, and hands-on training, rice yields have jumped 35%—producing enough extra food to feed 3 million people annually. 📈

“This isn’t just aid—it’s partnership,” said MATACT leader He Qiaosheng. By blending Chinese innovation with Chad’s farming traditions, the project has sown over 600,000 hectares of improved rice. Local farmer Oumar Souleymane added, “We’ve learned everything from seed-making to plowing. Now we can feed our families and sell surplus.”

Chadian officials like Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo see this as a turning point: “We’re not just fighting hunger—we’re building an export future.” With three new rice varieties set for Chad’s national seed catalog, this cross-continent collab is proving that teamwork really does grow the best crops. 🌱✨
