Volkswagen Group, a pioneer in China's auto market since the 1980s, is doubling down on its electric vehicle (EV) game as competition heats up. At the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, CEO Oliver Blume told CGTN the company sees rivals as both challengers and collaborators in the world's largest EV arena.
🔋 'China’s market is our innovation lab,' Blume said, highlighting partnerships with local tech firms to develop next-gen batteries and smart driving systems. With over 40% of Volkswagen’s global sales coming from the Chinese mainland, the automaker plans to launch 30 new EVs there by 2030.
🌐 The CEO also teased 'game-changing' mobility solutions for young urbanites, hinting at app-integrated car-sharing services. As Chinese brands like BYD gain ground, Blume remains bullish: 'Healthy competition accelerates progress—it’s why we’re investing €4.3 billion in China’s green transition.'
