China’s High-Tech Green Shift: Boosting Land Efficiency for Food Security 🌱🔧

China is taking significant strides in land management and green transition to ensure food security and drive economic growth. At the fourth meeting of the central commission for deepening overall reform of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held on Monday, key agendas included land management, green transition, and comprehensive innovation.

Qu Qiang, a research fellow at Beijing Foreign Studies University, emphasized that efficient land usage is crucial for the country's food security, especially as China feeds about 20% of the world's population with less than 10% of global arable land. He highlighted that technological advancements are instrumental in raising living standards and optimizing land resources.

The meeting adopted new guidelines focused on reforming the land administration system, promoting the overall green transition of China's economic and social development, and accelerating the formation of systems that support comprehensive innovation. Qu pointed out that green transition serves both as a goal and a solution for better land use, while high-tech development addresses issues like land supply shortages.

China is undergoing an economic structure transition and upgrading its technology towards more science-oriented development. For instance, the use of 3D printers in factories allows for vertical building rather than horizontal expansion, significantly enhancing land usage efficiency.

In terms of innovation, Qu emphasized the pivotal role of enterprises and the importance of elevating academic institutions in conducting fundamental and theoretical research. He suggested increasing support for enterprises and the private sector, nurturing a more market-oriented funding and financial system to further bolster innovation.
