China Launches Fair Probe on EU Brandy Imports 🍶🌏

China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into European Union (EU) branded brandy, aiming to ensure fair trade practices without targeting any specific EU member state, according to China’s Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao.

Wang emphasized that the probe will be conducted openly and transparently in line with Chinese law and WTO regulations, safeguarding the rights of all parties involved. This statement was made during his meeting in Paris with French brandy trade associations and producers, who expressed their willingness to collaborate and continue growing their businesses in the Chinese market.

The investigation focuses on EU-produced brandy shipped in containers holding less than 200 liters, imported between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023. While the probe is expected to conclude before January 5, 2025, there is a possibility of a six-month extension under special circumstances.

Highlighting the significance of 2024 as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, Wang stressed the vast potential for economic and trade cooperation. He invited French companies to tap into China’s booming market, especially with 2024 designated as the year of promoting consumption, which is set to boost demand for high-quality imported products.

With China’s large market and increasing consumption potential, the ongoing probe is seen as a step towards strengthening bilateral economic ties and fostering mutual growth between Chinese and French businesses.
