EU's New Tariffs on Chinese EVs Stir Global Backlash 🚗💥
The European Commission's recent announcement to impose extra duties on imports of battery electric vehicles (EVs) from the Chinese mainland starting this July has sparked significant opposition worldwide.
Industry associations and businesses within the EV sector have voiced strong concerns, arguing that the EU's move could harm the legitimate interests of China's EV industry. He Yadong, spokesperson for the Chinese Commerce Ministry, highlighted that these tariffs might disrupt the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Europe in the new energy vehicle market, potentially distorting global automobile supply chains.
\"The EU should properly handle economic and trade frictions and expand cooperation through healthy competition to achieve a win-win resolution,\" He Yadong emphasized during a press conference on Thursday.
On the same day, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) also expressed its staunch opposition, labeling the EU's plan as \"notably unfair\" and citing it as a \"typical double standard.\"
A CCPIT spokesperson criticized the EU's investigation process, stating that it blatantly violated World Trade Organization (WTO) rules by preventing Chinese carmakers from participating. The spokesperson assured that Chinese industries and businesses would defend their legal rights under WTO regulations.
Additionally, CCPIT accused the EU of applying a double standard, pointing out that the EU provides substantial subsidies to its own EV and battery industries while imposing duties on Chinese imports.
As the global EV market continues to grow, these developments are set to influence international trade dynamics and the future of sustainable transportation. 🌍🔋✨
