China has slammed Türkiye’s decision to impose 40% additional tariffs on imported Chinese fuel and hybrid vehicles, calling the move a 'discriminatory violation' of global trade rules.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce warned Friday that Türkiye’s policy—set to take effect in July—treats Chinese automakers unfairly compared to other WTO members. This follows Ankara’s earlier tariff hike on Chinese electric vehicles, which Beijing has repeatedly criticized.
'Türkiye’s erratic actions harm its own businesses and consumers while shaking Chinese investors’ confidence,' a ministry spokesperson said. Beijing vows to take 'all necessary measures' to protect Chinese companies.
Experts say the tariffs violate the WTO’s most-favored-nation principle, which requires equal treatment for all trading partners. China urged Türkiye to scrap the measures and 'keep bilateral trade healthy.'
