Exciting news for travelers! The Chinese mainland is rolling out a new pilot program to make your visits even smoother by enhancing payment services.
On Monday, Chinese authorities announced measures aimed at improving how international visitors can make payments throughout the country.
This initiative, spearheaded by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Data Administration, targets eight key cities: Suzhou, Hangzhou, Jinan, Wuhan, Changsha, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Xi’an. These cities will help over 11 million businesses (about 9.3% of the total nationwide) obtain mobile payment codes that accept foreign credit cards.
In the first nine months of this year, the Chinese mainland welcomed an estimated 95 million inbound tourists—a 55.4% increase compared to last year—thanks in part to the expanded visa-free transit policy.
Building on this growth, earlier efforts included March guidelines to optimize bank card payments and April mandates ensuring major tourist attractions accept both domestic and foreign bank cards.
Whether you’re a frequent traveler or planning your next adventure, China’s commitment to enhancing your payment experience ensures a hassle-free stay!
