China has announced plans to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in response to the European Union's final anti-subsidy measures targeting Chinese electric vehicles (EVs).
According to a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce, this move aims to protect the development interests of the EV industry and foster global cooperation on green transformation.
Despite China’s earlier appeal against the EU’s initial measures, the spokesperson expressed disappointment that the EU proceeded with high countervailing duties on Chinese EVs, even though EU member states, industry stakeholders, and the public opposed the decision.
China argues that the EU's actions lack factual and legal basis, violate WTO rules, and amount to trade protectionism disguised as countervailing measures. The spokesperson called on the EU to acknowledge these issues, correct the unlawful practices, and collaborate to maintain the stability of the global EV industry and the broader economic and trade relations between China and the EU.
