China is rolling out major upgrades to protect intellectual property (IP) for international businesses, with new laws, enforcement actions, and cooperation channels aimed at building trust with global innovators.
Global Standards, Local Action
Guo Wen, a senior official at China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), highlighted that China has joined nearly all major international IP treaties and now ranks as a top user of global patent, trademark, and design registration systems.
Cracking Down & Leveling Up
- Revised trademark and patent laws with stricter penalties aligned with global benchmarks.
- Targeted crackdowns on malicious patent disputes and trademark squatting.
- Resolved IP cases involving firms from the U.S., Germany, France, and others.
Dialogue Drives Progress
The CNIPA has hosted forums in Beijing, Shanghai, and other hubs to directly address foreign companies' concerns. From January to October, foreign invention patents approved in China jumped 5.3% YoY, while trademarks surged 13.1%.
\"These numbers show global confidence in China's IP ecosystem,\" Guo said, pledging continued efforts for a \"fairer, transparent, and predictable\" market.
