Hong Kong International Airport has just leveled up its game with the launch of its three-runway system! ✈️✨ Officially operational since Thursday, this mega upgrade cements Hong Kong's position as a top-notch international aviation hub.
John Lee, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, shared his excitement, saying, \"The new system will greatly enhance the airport's passenger and cargo capacity, bringing substantial business opportunities to Hong Kong.\" With the new setup, the airport is set to handle a whopping 120 million passenger trips and 10 million tonnes of cargo every year! 📈🚚
This expansion isn't just about numbers. Hong Kong International Airport serves as a vital gateway for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, playing a strategic role in the region's social and economic development. Lee encouraged the local aviation industry to ramp up air capacity, harness the area's advantages, and boost international connections.
Fred Lam, the chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, celebrated the milestone, stating, \"The three-runway system will create conditions to further expand the extensive air connectivity network, consolidating Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub.\" 🌍
The launch ceremony was graced by Vice Minister of Transport Xu Chengguang and Liang Nan, deputy head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, both expressing support for Hong Kong's integration into national development.
This ambitious project, costing around 141.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (about $18.18 billion), kicked off in August 2016. It includes the 3,800-meter third runway, an expanded Terminal 2 passenger building, a new concourse, an automated people mover system, and an advanced baggage handling system. The third runway itself became operational in July 2022.
With this state-of-the-art infrastructure, Hong Kong International Airport is all set to soar to new heights, offering enhanced connectivity and seamless travel experiences for millions around the globe. 🚀🌐
