Tesla is charging ahead in Shanghai! The U.S. electric carmaker's latest energy storage megafactory is set to wrap up construction by the end of the year, according to Tesla China.
Breaking ground in late May, the massive facility spans approximately 200,000 square meters and represents a hefty investment of around 1.45 billion yuan (about $199 million). This plant will focus on manufacturing Tesla's Megapack energy-storage batteries, with mass production slated for the first quarter of 2025.
Initially, the factory aims to produce 10,000 Megapack units annually, equivalent to around 40 GWh of energy storage. This impressive output underscores Tesla's commitment to expanding its energy solutions and supporting the global shift towards sustainable energy.
Located in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, this megafactory is Tesla's first of its kind outside the United States and marks the company's second plant in Shanghai, following the inauguration of its gigafactory in 2019.
As Tesla continues to electrify the global market, this new megafactory is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for energy storage solutions worldwide.
