U.S. & Ukraine Sign Minerals Pact After Rocky Negotiations 🚀💎

From Feud to Deal: What’s Inside the Agreement

After months of tense negotiations, the U.S. and Ukraine finalized a landmark minerals and reconstruction deal on Wednesday. 🌍 The agreement grants the U.S. preferential access to Ukrainian mineral resources while funding the war-torn nation’s recovery efforts. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko sealed the pact, which Ukrainian officials hailed as "good, equal, and beneficial."

💡 Why It Matters

The deal creates a joint investment fund with 50-50 voting rights, ensuring Ukraine retains control over its natural resources. Profits will be reinvested locally to rebuild infrastructure and energy systems, per Prime Minister Denys Shmygal. Washington may also provide additional aid, including air defense systems. ✈️🛡️

The Rocky Road to Signing

An earlier version collapsed in February after a heated exchange between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Talks resumed in Saudi Arabia and culminated in April after multiple drafts and "technical" discussions. Svyrydenko called the final text a "commitment to lasting peace and prosperity."

What’s Next?

While details on mineral specifics remain under wraps, the pact signals growing U.S. investment in Ukraine’s future. Shmygal emphasized Ukraine’s sovereignty, stating: "Our subsoil, infrastructure, and resources are ours to protect." 🇺🇦🔒
