Young Artist Paints China’s Magic: 10 Symbols from a Child’s View 🎨🐉

When 9-year-old Jeanette Fay Gunawan from Indonesia thinks of China, her imagination bursts with color, flavor, and folklore. 🌈 Her award-winning artwork, created with markers and watercolors, spotlights 10 vibrant symbols that capture China’s essence through youthful eyes.

From fluffy baozi (steamed buns 🥟) to majestic dragons soaring through ink-washed skies, Jeanette’s A3 masterpiece blends cultural icons and mythology. She paints the Great Wall snaking across mountains, glowing red lanterns 🏮, and the Moon Goddess Chang’e with her loyal Jade Rabbit—a nod to Mid-Autumn Festival tales.

🍵 Tea ceremonies, black-and-white pandas munching bamboo, and plum blossoms symbolizing resilience also make her top 10. “It’s like a storybook of what makes China special,” says Jeanette, who won third prize in the global ‘China Through My Eyes’ art project.

Her work reminds us that culture connects across generations—and sometimes, the freshest perspectives come with crayons 🖍️ and a 9-year-old’s curiosity. ✨
