Typhoon Kong-rey Set to Slam Taiwan and Southeast China with Historic Rainfall 🌪️🌧️

Brace yourselves! Typhoon Kong-rey, the 21st typhoon of 2024, is gearing up to make a powerful landfall along the eastern coast of the island of Taiwan between noon and evening this Thursday. 🌬️

The storm is expected to shift northeast towards the mainland, targeting the coastal areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian provinces, and even Shanghai, says the China Meteorological Administration.

Shanghai could see an unprecedented downpour with rainfall between 120 and 180 millimeters, and peak hourly rains reaching 40 to 70 millimeters. This might mark the most extreme precipitation the city has seen in November since 1981! 😱

Taiwan authorities have already issued land warnings early Wednesday morning. Mountainous regions in Yilan and Hualien counties are under extremely heavy rain and torrential rain advisories from Wednesday evening through early Thursday.

Hualien is in the spotlight, forecasted to receive over 900 millimeters of rain on Thursday – the highest on the entire island. 🏔️💧

Travelers, take note! Multiple airlines have started notifying passengers about delays, rescheduling, or even cancellations of international flights to and from Taiwan. ✈️🛑
