A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland's foreign ministry announced on Monday that China is eager to collaborate with Southeast Asian nations to enhance mutual understanding and trust, deepen friendly ties, and pursue shared development and prosperity.
Responding to questions about the recent boost in interactions between China and Southeast Asian countries, spokesperson Lin Jian highlighted that these exchanges have reached unprecedented levels, reflecting the region's collective desire for solidarity, cooperation, and growth.
Lin emphasized that under the leadership of high-level diplomacy, both sides have achieved significant advancements in high-quality cooperation, taking solid steps towards building a community with a shared future.
He cited major infrastructure projects like the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway, the China-Laos Railway, Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link, and the China-Laos-Thailand international freight train service as key examples of this collaborative spirit.
Additionally, visa-free arrangements between China and countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Laos have yielded remarkable results, with the official implementation of the "Lancang-Mekong visa" policy further facilitating travel and business between the regions.
On maritime cooperation, Lin pointed out that China and Southeast Asian nations have reached critical understandings on managing maritime differences, enhancing cooperation, expediting consultations on a South China Sea code of conduct, and jointly maintaining peace and stability in the region's waters.
"Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific is the shared home of China and neighboring countries. China has all along put the neighborhood as a priority in the overall diplomacy," Lin added.
These initiatives underscore China's commitment to fostering a harmonious and prosperous Southeast Asia, aligning with the region's aspirations for collective growth and stability.
