In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for China and India to return to a stable and healthy development track during his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that resuming and restarting China-India relations aligns with the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries, the expectations of Global South nations, and the rightful direction of history.

He stressed the importance of implementing the important consensus reached by both leaders, respecting each other's core interests, and enhancing mutual trust through continuous dialogue and communication. Wang urged both sides to handle differences with sincerity and honesty.

Additionally, Wang called for the two nations to send more positive signals and undertake actions that promote interaction, thereby boosting mutual trust and reducing suspicions. He advocated for practical progress in areas such as the resumption of direct flights, exchange of journalists, and visa facilitation.

Looking ahead, Wang noted that next year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India. He emphasized the need for commemorative activities and encouraged exchanges and visits across all fields and levels to foster mutual understanding and trust.

As two large developing countries and neighbors, Wang pointed out that China and India share far more common interests than differences. He suggested that both nations view each other's development as an opportunity to achieve common growth and revitalization, which would safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and promote a multipolar world.

Wang also mentioned that both China and India pursue a non-aligned foreign policy, adhere to multilateralism, and support the democratization of international relations. He called for continued strengthening of coordination and cooperation in international affairs, as well as the promotion of the BRICS mechanism and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
