China’s Supply & Marketing Cooperatives Get a Modern Makeover
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for supply and marketing cooperatives to evolve into bridges connecting farmers, the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the government. The push aims to modernize rural economies and drive high-quality development, aligning with broader goals like poverty eradication and rural revitalization.
In a speech marking the 70th anniversary of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, Xi highlighted their historic role in ‘serving rural and urban residents, boosting agriculture, and raising farmers’ incomes’. He urged these cooperatives to become integrated platforms supporting farmers’ daily needs and modernizing agricultural practices.

With over 70 years of operation, the federation manages critical resources like agricultural production tools and sideline products. Xi emphasized that Party committees and governments must strengthen leadership over these cooperatives to ensure they innovate and adapt to current challenges.
