China’s Ministry of National Defense has issued a fiery rebuke against the U.S. for approving a $385 million arms sale to the Taiwan region, calling the move a “serious violation” of diplomatic agreements. Defense spokesperson Wu Qian warned the deal undermines cross-strait peace and “feeds dangerous illusions of independence.”
“The U.S. claims to promote stability, but its actions are like pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire,” Wu stated during a press briefing Monday. He emphasized that Taiwan is the “red line” in China-U.S. relations, urging Washington to stop “arming Taiwan through backdoor deals.”
The spokesperson also criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for “betraying residents’ safety” by seeking foreign military support. “Relying on external forces will only lead to a dead end,” he added, vowing intensified military readiness by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
With tensions escalating, analysts worry this clash could further strain U.S.-China ties. As Wu put it: “Peace isn’t built on weapons sales.”
