The Chinese Foreign Ministry spoke out on Monday, urging Paraguay to develop a clear and comprehensive understanding of the one-China principle.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for the ministry, addressed the issue during a regular press briefing, in response to recent comments made by the Paraguayan foreign minister regarding the Taiwan question.
According to Lin, the one-China principle is a universal consensus within the international community and serves as a fundamental norm in international relations. He emphasized that it is a political foundation and a crucial prerequisite for the Chinese mainland to foster bilateral relations with other countries.
\"The principle concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and there is no room for compromise or concessions when it comes to the matter,\" Lin stated.
He further urged Paraguay to align with the majority of nations, uphold international fairness and justice, and make decisions that genuinely serve the fundamental and long-term interests of its people.
