China is leading the charge in renewable energy, maintaining high utilization rates for wind and solar power. According to the National Energy Administration, both wind and solar power utilization rates stayed above 95% this year, showcasing China's commitment to a green and sustainable future.
By the end of 2024, China’s installed wind power capacity reached an impressive 510 million kilowatts, while solar power capacity soared to 840 million kilowatts. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, wind and solar power generated a total of 1.05 trillion kilowatt-hours, making up about 20% of the country's total electricity generation.
The new energy industry in China has been on a rapid growth trajectory, maintaining double-digit annual growth rates. Since 2013, wind power installed capacity has grown sixfold, and solar power installed capacity has surged more than 180 times. With annual new installations accounting for over 40% of the global total, China is significantly contributing to the world's green development efforts.
At the national energy work conference on Sunday, Chinese authorities emphasized their commitment to enhancing the development and utilization of wind and solar power. This initiative is a key part of the country's green and low-carbon transformation strategy. Additionally, China plans to deepen international energy cooperation, particularly in green energy, and actively engage in global energy governance.
