Mainland Slams Taiwan DPP for Blocking Shanghai-Taipei Forum Participation 🚫🤔

🚨 The Chinese mainland has voiced strong criticism against Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities following their decision to obstruct mainland participation in the 2024 Shanghai-Taipei City Forum. This move resulted in the exclusion of several mainland delegates and journalists from the event.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, expressed dissatisfaction in response to media inquiries about the recently concluded forum, which has been a biannual event alternating between Shanghai and Taipei since 2010.

Despite the tensions, this year's forum facilitated meaningful discussions between representatives from both cities, culminating in the signing of two memoranda of understanding aimed at boosting future collaboration. 🌐🤝

\"The actions taken by the DPP authorities are unreasonable and widely unpopular,\" Zhu stated, emphasizing that the mainland remains committed to working with Taiwan compatriots to enhance cross-Straits exchanges, cooperation, and integration.

Addressing questions about Hua Yuan, deputy mayor of Shanghai's opening speech, Zhu reaffirmed the mainland's support for normalizing cross-Straits relations, including tourism initiatives. \"We look forward to the early resumption of travel to Taiwan for mainland residents, including those from Shanghai,\" she added, urging the DPP authorities to remove restrictions hindering cooperation and exchanges between the two regions.
