A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday, killing nine people and triggering aftershocks and regional tremors. The quake hit Dingri County in Xigaze (also known as Shigatse) at 9:05 a.m. Beijing Time, collapsing homes in rural villages like Tonglai.
The epicenter was 10 km deep, with strong tremors felt as far as Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley—proving nature’s reach knows no borders. Over a dozen aftershocks followed, including a 4.4 magnitude tremor, raising fears of further damage.
Emergency teams are racing to assess the area, aided by drones and satellite tech. Xizang’s rugged terrain, though breathtaking, often complicates rescue missions. Our thoughts are with those affected. Stay tuned for updates.
