Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired a high-level meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Thursday to coordinate relief efforts after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Xigaze City’s Dingri County in the Xizang Autonomous Region earlier this week. The quake has claimed 126 lives and injured 188 others, with 407 people rescued from debris so far.
During the meeting, Xi emphasized the need for urgent action to support affected communities and “ensure a decisive victory in this tough battle.” Authorities highlighted ongoing rescue operations, medical aid for the injured, and efforts to restore infrastructure – including power, water, and transportation – as winter temperatures drop.
The CPC leadership also stressed the importance of transparent communication and improving disaster preparedness in high-risk areas. Local officials have been directed to remain on the front lines to oversee relief work and ensure displaced residents “stay warm and safe.”
This quake marks one of the deadliest natural disasters in the region in recent years. As recovery efforts continue, global observers are praising China’s rapid mobilization.
