Two earthquakes above magnitude 4.5 jolted southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The first quake, measuring 4.9, struck Dingri County in Xigaze at 8:57 p.m. (Beijing Time), followed closely by a 5.0 magnitude earthquake at 8:58 p.m. These rapid successive tremors have residents staying alert and authorities monitoring the situation closely.
