Milwaukee was on fire as the ISU Speed Skating World Cup kicked off with a bang, breaking four track records on the first day!
In the men's 1,000-meter race, 20-year-old American phenom Jordan Stolz dominated the ice, clocking an impressive 1:06.16 to grab the gold . He wasn't alone in his stellar performance, as the Netherlands' Jenning de Boo and Kjeld Nuis took silver and bronze respectively. Meanwhile, China's Lian Ziwen finished strong in 12th place with a time of 1:08.28.
Jordan Stolz is on a mission this season, leading the World Cup standings in the men's 500-meter, 1,000-meter, and 1,500-meter events.
Over in the women's 1,000-meter showdown, Japan's Miho Takagi showcased her incredible form, smashing the previous track record with a time of 1:13.56 to claim the gold . Close on her heels were the U.S.'s Brittany Bowe and the Netherlands' Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong, who took silver and bronze respectively.
Long-distance races didn’t disappoint either! Italy's Francesca Lollobrigida edged out Norway's Ragne Wiklund by just 0.13 seconds to win the women's 3,000-meter title with a time of 3:54.73. On the men's side, Norwegian Sander Eitrem set a new track record and personal best with 6:04.74, securing the gold in the 5,000-meter race .
China's Yang Binyu placed 11th in the women's 300-meter with a time of 4:01.63, while Wu Yu finished 15th in the men's 5,000-meter final.
The excitement continues as the World Cup races through Friday to Sunday, with the 500-meter and 1,500-meter titles set to be decided tomorrow!
