China Maintains Robust Wetland Areas with Major Conservation Efforts 🌿✨

China is making waves in environmental conservation! 🌍 Through the implementation of over 3,700 protection and restoration projects, the nation has successfully added or restored more than 1 million hectares of wetlands. This dedication ensures that China’s total wetland area remains steadfast above 56.35 million hectares.

Creating over 2,200 wetland nature reserves has significantly enhanced the ecological conditions of key areas, providing vital habitats for countless species. 🐢🦆

In recent years, China has bolstered its legal framework for wetland protection, coupled with comprehensive monitoring of forests, grasslands, and wetlands. A standout achievement is the accelerated mangrove conservation and restoration initiative, which has added 8,800 hectares and restored 8,200 hectares of mangroves over the past five years. 🌱 The total mangrove area now stands at 30,300 hectares, marking a net gain that places China among the global leaders in mangrove preservation.

Combating invasive species has also been a priority. By the end of 2024, China succeeded in controlling Spartina alterniflora across 73,300 hectares, reaching 89.4% of its target and effectively curbing its spread. 🛡️

Celebrating two decades of dedication, this year marks the 20th anniversary of China’s national wetland park system. With 903 national wetland parks protecting 2.4 million hectares of wetlands, the system has not only preserved natural beauty but also contributed over 50 billion yuan (about $7.0 billion) to regional economic growth. Impressively, approximately 90% of these parks are open to the public free of charge, inviting everyone to connect with nature. 🏞️

As we approach the 29th World Wetlands Day on Sunday, the theme \"Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future\" underscores the critical role wetlands play in ensuring a sustainable future for all. Let’s celebrate and continue supporting these vital ecosystems! 🌊💚
