History was made on ice Friday as the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Milwaukee saw four track records obliterated in a jaw-dropping display of speed and precision. Young guns and seasoned pros alike left audiences breathless at the Pettit National Ice Center.
American phenom Jordan Stolz, 20, continued his dominance this season, snatching gold in the men’s 1,000m with a lightning 1:06.16 sprint – leaving Dutch rivals Jenning de Boo and Kjeld Nuis in his frosty wake. China’s Lian Ziwen placed 12th, clocking 1:08.28.
Japan’s ice queen Miho Takagi ruled the women’s 1,000m, dethroning hometown hero Brittany Bowe (USA) with a 1:13.56 victory. The Netherlands’ Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong secured bronze.
Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida turned up the heat in endurance events, edging Norway’s Ragne Wiklund by 0.13 seconds in the women’s 3,000m. Meanwhile, Norwegian speedster Sander Eitrem redefined limits with a 6:04.74 track record in the men’s 5,000m. China’s Yang Binyu and Wu Yu finished 11th and 15th in their respective races.
All eyes now turn to Saturday’s 500m and 1,500m finals. With Stolz leading three World Cup standings, could we witness more records melt? Stay tuned!
