China Slams U.S.-Japan Statement Over Taiwan, Diaoyu Islands

🚨 China’s Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the U.S. and Japan for their latest joint statement, calling it a “brazen interference” in its internal affairs. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun condemned the document during a Monday briefing, accusing both nations of inflaming regional tensions and violating China’s sovereignty. 🌏

The statement, released last week, backed Taiwan’s “meaningful participation” in international groups and claimed U.S.-Japan security agreements cover the Diaoyu Dao islands – which Beijing insists are “an inherent part of China.” Guo fired back: “Taiwan has no right to join organizations meant for sovereign states.” 🇨🇳

🔍 Why it matters: Taiwan remains one of China’s “core interests,” with Guo warning that external meddling “will not be tolerated.” He also called out Japan’s historical responsibility for colonizing Taiwan, urging Tokyo to “tread carefully.”

🌊 On the Diaoyu Dao issue, Guo stressed China’s activities in nearby waters are “legitimate and lawful.” Beijing demands that Washington and Tokyo “stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence forces” and respect the one-China principle.

💡 Bottom line: With tensions simmering, China wants global players to back off what it sees as domestic matters. As Guo put it: “If you care about peace, oppose Taiwan independence.”
