The WTT Singapore Smash was a dazzling display of skill and determination as Chinese paddlers Sun Yingsha and Lin Shidong clinched the women’s and men’s singles titles, respectively.
Sun Yingsha faced off against her compatriot Kuai Man in a thrilling final. From the get-go, Sun took the lead, winning the first game 11-8. Despite Kuai's strong comeback in the second game, Sun regained her momentum, triumphing with scores of 11-7, 11-5, and 11-6 in the following games to reclaim the title she won in 2023.
\"I'm quite happy about making a good start in 2025. Facing a familiar opponent, I was more focused and gave it my all throughout the match,\" Sun shared.
This victory marks Sun's third singles trophy on the WTT Grand Smash stage and her impressive 14th singles title in the WTT Series, the highest of any player.
On the men’s side, Lin Shidong delivered an outstanding performance in an all-Chinese final against Liang Jingkun. After splitting the first four games, Lin surged ahead, winning the next two decisively with scores of 11-3 and 11-2.
Lin’s victory not only completes his treble success in singles and doubles but also sets him up to rise to world No. 1 in next week’s rankings—a significant milestone for the 19-year-old.
\"For me, the world No. 1 is just a title. I still need to improve myself in the future, and go all out in every match,\" Lin stated.
Despite the singles defeat, Kuai Man leaves Singapore proud, having secured titles in the mixed and women’s doubles events earlier.
With all five titles claimed by Chinese players, the WTT Singapore Smash showcased the depth and talent of China’s table tennis prowess.
