Rising Tensions in the Taiwan Strait
China's military has slammed the U.S. for sailing two vessels through the Taiwan Strait last week, calling it a 'provocative act' that threatens regional stability. The USS Ralph Johnson destroyer and USNS Bowditch survey ship crossed the strategic waterway from Feb. 10-12, drawing swift backlash from Beijing.

'Wrong Signals' to Taiwan Independence
Senior Colonel Li Xi of the PLA Eastern Theater Command confirmed Chinese forces monitored the ships throughout their journey, calling the move a dangerous show of support for 'Taiwan independence forces.' Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stressed that Taiwan is 'an inseparable part of China,' framing the issue as a matter of sovereignty rather than 'freedom of navigation.'
China's Firm Warning
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian doubled down: 'We have the will, confidence, and capability to defend our territory.' All three Chinese officials urged Washington to adhere to the one-China principle and avoid emboldening separatist movements.
Analysts say this could escalate tensions in a region already on edge. As PLA troops remain 'on high alert,' the global community watches to see if this becomes the next flashpoint in U.S.-China relations.
