China Escalates Criticism of Australia's Military Moves
China’s Ministry of National Defense has sharply condemned Australia’s recent military activities in the South China Sea, calling them a 'blatant violation of sovereignty.' Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang dismissed claims by Australia that a Chinese PLA aircraft conducted an 'unsafe' maneuver near an Australian plane on February 11, accusing Canberra of 'spreading lies to play the victim.'
Zhang stressed that China’s response was a 'lawful defense' of its territory and urged Australia to 'stop stirring trouble' in the region. 'We’ve made serious representations to the Australian side,' he said, warning against 'acting as a henchman for other powers.'
Analysts say the spat reflects broader geopolitical tensions as China asserts its claims over the disputed waters. Will Australia dial back its presence? For now, the waves are rising.
